About this business

Porthcurno Beach is a picturesque sandy cove nestled between towering granite cliffs in West Cornwall. With its soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, it’s easy to see why this beach is often likened to a tropical paradise. The dramatic backdrop of the open-air Minack Theatre perched on the cliffs above adds to the magical atmosphere. Popular with families, the gently sloping beach is ideal for paddling and swimming when conditions are calm. However, the sea can get rough at times, so caution is advised.

During summer months, RNLI lifeguards patrol the beach, providing extra peace of mind for visitors. Dogs are welcome from October to Easter, but a seasonal ban is in place May to September. Facilities include a large car park, toilets, and a cafe serving refreshments. At low tide, small rock pools appear at either end of the beach – perfect for little ones to explore marine life. The crystal-clear waters also make it a favourite spot for snorkelling when the sea is calm. For walkers, the South West Coast Path offers spectacular clifftop walks in both directions.

Porthcurno’s beauty does mean it can get busy on warm summer days, but its relatively remote location helps keep crowds manageable. Surfers may find better waves elsewhere, as the sheltered position means swells are often small here. However, the breathtaking scenery more than makes up for this. Whether you’re looking to relax on the sand, take a refreshing dip, or simply soak in some of Cornwall’s most magnificent coastal views, Porthcurno Beach delivers a truly memorable seaside experience. Its pristine natural beauty has even made it a popular filming location for TV shows like Poldark.
