About this Beach

Towan Beach is a delightful sandy beach nestled right in the heart of Newquay, Cornwall. This picturesque cove is overlooked by the iconic Towan Island, connected to the mainland by a suspension footbridge. The beach’s sheltered position makes it popular with families and beginner surfers alike. Dogs are welcome year-round, and lifeguards patrol during the summer months to ensure visitors’ safety. While there are no facilities directly on the beach, toilets and refreshments can be found just a short walk away in town, plus there are seasonal cafes and take aways on the promenade abobve the beach.

At low tide, Towan Beach joins with neighbouring beaches to create a vast expanse of golden sand, perfect for building sandcastles or taking a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. The clear, turquoise waters are inviting for swimming and paddling, though always heed local safety advice. For those interested in marine life, the rocky outcrops at either end of the beach reveal fascinating rock pools teeming with sea creatures when the tide recedes. Surfers will find decent waves here, particularly for beginners, with more challenging breaks available at nearby Fistral Beach for the more experienced.

The beach’s central location means it can get busy during peak season, but its beauty is undeniable. As the sun begins to set, the vista transforms into a breathtaking tableau of warm hues reflecting off the sea. Whether you’re seeking a fun family day out, a romantic spot for a picnic, or simply a place to relax and soak up the Cornish atmosphere, Towan Beach offers a slice of coastal paradise right in the heart of one of Cornwall’s most beloved towns.
