About this Beach

Mawgan Porth Beach is a beautiful golden sand beach nestled between dramatic cliffs on Cornwall’s rugged north coast. This wide, sheltered cove offers something for everyone – from families building sandcastles to surfers catching waves. The beach is dog-friendly year-round and has seasonal RNLI lifeguard cover from Easter to October. Facilities include toilets, cafes and shops in the village just behind the beach. At low tide, the expansive stretch of sand is perfect for beach games, while rocky areas at each end provide excellent rockpooling opportunities.

The beach is a popular spot for surfing, with consistent waves suitable for beginners and more experienced surfers alike. Swimming is generally safe within the flagged areas when lifeguards are on duty, but care should always be taken due to strong currents. For walkers, the South West Coast Path offers breathtaking clifftop walks in both directions, with panoramic views across the Atlantic. As the tide recedes, the beach reveals fascinating rock formations and tidal pools to explore.

Despite its beauty, Mawgan Porth tends to be less crowded than some of Cornwall’s more famous beaches, making it ideal for those seeking a more relaxed seaside experience. The beach faces west, treating visitors to spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Whether you’re looking to surf, swim, build sandcastles, or simply soak up the coastal scenery, Mawgan Porth Beach offers a quintessential Cornish beach day out in a picturesque setting.
