Wimbledon’s around the corner, and strawberries are in season. Which means tennis season is well underway. And what with the re-opening of the Southwest’s biggest padel club in Newquay, and tennis retreats popping up on courts countywide, Cornwall’s swinging into the racket sports scene with style.
Whether you’re chasing your first rally or a seasoned spin-master, Cornwall’s got the courts, the coaching and the cool-downs to match. Here’s our top spots to play padel and tennis this summer:
Luxury Tennis Break
Serve and stay beside the Helford River during Wimbledon. Hidden in 65 acres of subtropical gardens, Budock Vean is hosting a luxury tennis coaching break while the pros hit centre court at Wimbledon (29 June–4 July). Expect 10 hours of expert instruction with LTA coach Will Richards, spa downtime, and gourmet dining between matches. Oh, and sea dips just down the lane. Game on.
Padel, Rebooted
Tried padel yet? It’s like tennis with chill vibes. Smaller court, underarm serve, loads of bounce and no barriers to fun straight off the bat. SeaSpace is home to the biggest padel club in the South West, with five courts that have just re-opened in time to smash back into action this summer. There’s week-long padel breaks if you want to bag an apartment, and plenty of drop-in padel fun with family sessions, Padel & Pizza, and weekly Americanos – a round robin format where you switch partners every round. Add a 19m pool, café and fitness studio – and it’s a full-on active escape.
Coast Meets Court
Wake up, walk to the waves, then hit the court. Choose from padel and tennis at The Point’s outdoor courts, which sit in striking distance of the beach, alongside cottages, a health club, and even an 18-hole golf course. You can drop in for a game, or stay, play and repeat with sea views on your doorstep.
Local Tennis Vibes
Looking for a local tennis club, real rallies and a friendly, inclusive atmosphere? Heron Tennis is a solid spot. With coaching for all ages and plenty of court time, it’s ideal if you’re staying in Newquay and fancy something different from the beach scene. Take your pick from tennis, padel, or pickleball – and the courtside café’s good, too.
Padel With a View
Thought Padstow was all about food and beaches? Think again. With two padel courts at the Trevose Country Club, it’s now also about padel with views – just minutes from the shoreline and foodie scene. Play a few sets, then swap your racket for a G&T at the clubhouse. Game, set, relax.
Cornwall’s got the courts, the coaching, and the coastal cool to give your summer break a whole new spin. Let’s play. Advantage: you.
