Forget the big-name line-ups and tourist-packed beaches. This is your alternative summer hitlist — stripped-back, offbeat, and sizzling hot. From yoga at the tide line to underground raves and wild dining with a sea view, here’s what we’re making time for this summer.
Chapel Porth, St Agnes
You’ve heard of the famous Hidden Hut feast nights — but have you tried Night Hatch? On select summer evenings, chef Adam Vasey lifts the hatch at this wild beach café to serve fiery post-surf feasts straight from the flat-top. Think Thai Caesar salad, dirty potatoes with red curry butter, and grilled greens with miso and ginger. No frills, just flavour and view.

Lusty Glaze, Newquay
Stretch your body and synch your breath to the sound of the waves. We all need a little Zen in the summer chaos, and we’ll be finding ours on the shoreline. Every Tuesday and Thursday, surfer-yogi Jen Austin brings the good vibes to Lusty Glaze – think mellow movement, sea air, swooping gulls, and a playlist that feels like summer. For more beach yoga sessions, read our blog.
Golant, Fowey
A rural bar in a grain silo might sound niche, but trust us — it’s the one. Live sets from names like Beans on Toast, Land of the Giants and Jazz Mango, plus wood-fired pizza and strong local cider. Off-grid and under the radar.
Carnglaze Caverns, Liskeard
A dancefloor deep underground in a slate cavern. Three DJs. Wireless headphones. A backdrop of an emerald lake. This is not your average club night. Throw shapes to 80s bangers and 90s anthems in a subterranean rave cave lit by lasers and dripping with atmosphere.
Bedruthan Steps
Deep talks. Day party. Cosmic DJ set on the clifftops. This mash-up of mind-expanding conversations and feel-good Balearic beats brings something genuinely different to Cornwall’s events calendar. Think: sunsets, soul, speakers and soul-funk-latin-disco in the wild.
Lizard Peninsula
Dare we share a secret beach? OK, just one. Hunkered between two quarries on the eastern edge of the Lizard, Leggan Cove is a hidden haven for sun-seekers. Cerulean shallows, snorkel-friendly waters and rockpools galore — if you’re up for a stroll across farmland, this is pure escape. That’s all we’re going to giveaway. Go seek. Pack light and linger late.
The Headland Hotel, Newquay
Adam Handling’s high-concept, low-waste restaurant is moving from St Ives to Newquay — where the Ugly Butterfly 2.0 will spread its wings above Fistral Beach. Expect Cornish seafood, fish & chips with Champagne, and the most decadent afternoon tea in Cornwall. Come for the knickerbocker glories, stay for the sea views. Opening July 9.
Sunset & Dip
Porth Joke (aka Polly Joke), near Crantock
Not an event – a moment. When the sun tips west, this tucked-away cove turns molten gold. Pad along the white sands for a dip in the evening glass, then sit on the cliffs to soak it all in, slow down, and enjoy nature’s closing curtain. If you feel the chill, follow the coast path to C-Bay Café is perfect for food and drink.
Melancoose, near Newquay
Summer wellness means taking time out. Breathe. Strengthen. Sweat. Nurture. How? Escape to Melancoose: a unique spa and wellness venue hidden in peaceful woodlands just two miles from the coast. Join creative workshops rooted in nature, or simply soak in the giant woodfired sauna and hot tub. There’s Wild Women Retreats, Ocean Fit, and Summer Wellbeing Days on the schedule, or hire the venue and make your own.
Nansledan, near Newquay
Switch busy beaches for countryside calm, and fill up on Middle Eastern flavours in a wildflower-strewn country park. Sabzi’s takeaway boxes brim with roasted local veg, whipped tahini, vibrant chutneys and Persian Love Cake — all inspired by founder Kate’s Iranian roots. Grab a takeaway box then wander the meadows of Pras Trewolek – 75 acres of rewilded farmland with walking trails, bird hides, and native cattle.
So there you have it — your backstage pass to Cornwall’s alternative summer. No queues, no crowds, no clichés. Just wild feasts, rave caves, hidden beaches and salty moments. Chase the kind of summer that feels a little more… you.
