Swanpool Beach is a delightful sandy cove nestled just outside Falmouth town centre. This sheltered beach offers calm waters perfect for swimming and paddling, making it popular with families. The golden sand is ideal for sunbathing and building sandcastles, while low tide reveals interesting rock pools to explore. Nature lovers will appreciate the adjacent Swanpool Lake Nature Reserve, home to diverse birdlife and the rare Trembling Sea Mat. For the adventurous, there’s a watersports centre offering kayak and paddleboard hire.
The beach has a seasonal dog ban from July to August between 10am and 6pm. During summer months, there is no lifeguard cover, so visitors should take care when swimming. Facilities include a large car park, public toilets, and the beloved Swanpool Beach Cafe serving up tasty snacks and their famous quirky ice cream flavours. For a bit of fun, there’s even a small crazy golf course and swan-shaped pedalos for hire on the lake.
What sets Swanpool apart is its tranquil atmosphere and picturesque setting. The crescent-shaped bay is framed by gently sloping hills, creating a secluded feel despite being close to town. It’s an excellent spot for a peaceful morning swim or evening stroll along the shore. While it may not offer the big waves sought by surfers, its calm waters are ideal for beginners trying out paddleboarding or kayaking. On a clear day, the views across Falmouth Bay are truly magnificent, making Swanpool a hidden gem among Cornwall’s beaches.
