Rest A While Tea Garden is one of those discoveries that makes a coastal walk feel like a proper adventure. Tucked behind a row of two hundred year old coastguard cottages at Hawkers Cove, just fifty metres off the South West Coast Path between Padstow and Stepper Point, it is a gloriously sheltered sun trap with breathtaking views across the Doom Bar, the mouth of the Camel Estuary, and out towards Daymer Bay and Polzeath. Rated number one in Padstow on Tripadvisor with nearly 1,400 reviews, it has a habit of stopping walkers in their tracks and keeping them rather longer than they planned.
Served from a window hatch with warmth and genuine friendliness, the food is exactly what you want after a breezy clifftop stretch: homemade scones fresh from the oven with Boddington’s jam and Rodda’s clotted cream, homemade cakes, soups, sandwiches, cream teas and cold drinks, with gluten free options well catered for too. Dogs are very welcome and even get their own treats. Open Easter to October, weather permitting, it is the kind of place you will be telling people about for the rest of the holiday.
