Mexico Towans Beach

Mexico Towans Beach is a gorgeous expanse of golden sand nestled in the heart of Hayle’s magnificent 4-mile stretch of coastline. Backed by towering sand dunes blanketed in marram grass, this beach offers a sense of wild beauty and seclusion. Despite its impressive size, Mexico Towans tends to be less crowded than some of Cornwall’s more famous beaches, making it perfect for those seeking a peaceful day by the sea. Families will find plenty of space for children to play and explore, while the vast sandy expanse is ideal for long, leisurely walks.

The beach is dog-friendly year-round, allowing four-legged friends to romp freely across the sand and splash in the waves. During the summer months, RNLI lifeguards keep a watchful eye on swimmers and surfers, though visitors should always exercise caution in the water, especially when swells are large. While there are no permanent facilities directly on the beach, the nearby Sandy Acres car park offers a small café housed in a quirky shipping container – the perfect spot to grab a post-surf coffee or well-deserved slice of cake after tackling the dune climb.

Mexico Towans is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, with consistent waves making it popular among surfers of all levels. On calmer days, the crystal-clear waters are ideal for swimming and paddling. At low tide, the beach reveals a vast playground of sand perfect for beach games, sandcastle building, and gentle exploration. Rockpools emerge at either end of the beach, offering fascinating glimpses into the local marine life. As the sun begins to set, the beach takes on a magical quality, with the golden light painting the sand dunes in warm hues – a truly breathtaking sight that captures the essence of Cornwall’s coastal beauty.
