Must-Do March Culture in Cornwall

Cornwall’s not all about the great outdoors. Sure, early spring’s longer days, crowd-free beaches and dramatic skies make it one of our favourite months for walking and wave chasing. But what we love most in March is Cornwall’s vibrant community culture: creative spaces, live music, winter feasts and festivals that make the county thrum with life and ensure there’s never such a thing as a dull March day.

Here’s our pick of the best things to do this month — the must-dos, insider style.

Warm up at Kiln Sauna

March sea winds still bite, and lucky for us there are plenty of mobile saunas to warm up and feel the glow after saltwater adventures. With three sublime south coast locations – the Helford, Flushing and Gyllygnvase Beach, Kiln wood-fired sauna offers a cosy sanctuary where the community can come together and experience the warmth of wellbeing. It’s restorative, sensory, and uniquely Cornish.

Dance the Ceilidh or Jig to a Gig at Project 83

Wondered what the locals do on those cold, wet wintery evenings? In Newquay they gather for ceilidhs, live music, film nights and street food pop ups, in the vibrant hub of Project 83 in the heart of town.

Check the calendar for March events and grab your dancing shoes or a seat by the fire.

Feast Nights at The Tartan Fox

Winter in Cornwall deserves a belly-warming culinary highlight – and the Tartan Fox delivers just that. Its seasonal feast nights celebrate the very best local produce in a relaxed, communal setting. Expect a menu of Cornish flavours – from wild greens to freshly caught fish – served in a garden tipi with live musical accompaniment.

One of Adam Handling’s stable, his nearby Ugly Butterly has just been awarded a Michelin star –making it a go-to if you’re looking for an all-out foodie treat.

Stargazing on the Spring Equinox

Budock Vean Stargazing

Step out and explore the magic of the universe when Cornwall’s skies put on a show for the spring equinox. From Bedruthan Steps to Bodmin Moor, Cornwall boasts lots of stargazing locations with little light pollution to dim the awe-inspiring night skies.

But this March you can delve deeper into the cosmos, with a three-night Spa, Stay and Gaze Weekend. Expert astronomer Chris Cooke guides you through three nights of celestial magic at Budock Vean Hotel on the Helford – balanced perfectly with cream teas, garden walks and spa sessions.

Celebrate St Piran’s Day in Perranporth

Perranporth is the epicentre of St Piran’s Day celebrations on 5 March, when hundreds march across the windswept dunes dressed in white, black and gold, to celebrate Cornwall’s patron saint and watch an outdoor enactment of St Piran’s legendary arrival.

It’s ceremonial, theatrical, and a true Cornish cultural highlight. Wrap up warm, with a Cornish flag in hand, then slip away at sunset to Alcatraz Bar and Café for a G&T and views of the Atlantic.

Get Creative at The Levels – Cornwall’s New Art Hub in Newquay

March is made for creativity. And there are plenty of workshops county-wide from mixed media, colour and acrylic workshops at The Poly in Falmouth, to Botanical Painting at Trebah Garden.

For fresh inspiration, head to the brand-new art hub at  The Levels in Newquay, where you can meet artists at work in their studios, join in community events and buy – or make – something to take home.

Your Own Space by the Sea

Seaspace Exterior Aerial View

March is a perfect time for longer, slower stays and great deals on accommodation in Cornwall. SeaSpace nails it: designer apartments with floor-to-ceiling sea views, hotel-style comforts, fitness and wellness classes, and easy access to surf and coastal walks.

Watch storms roll across the Atlantic from your window, take a dip in the Miami-style pool, then head out for a wild coastal walk. Indulgent, restorative, and unmistakably Cornish.
