About this business

Nestled just east of St Austell, Pinetum Gardens is a sprawling, family-run botanical treasure that’s been lovingly shaped over 40 years into one of Cornwall’s most captivating green spaces. Spread across 30 acres of parkland, it’s home to a staggering 6,000 labelled plants, including rare specimens and some of the county’s champion trees—truly a plant-lover’s paradise. The gardens are cleverly divided into ten distinct “rooms,” each with its own character: wander through a tranquil Japanese garden with its authentic tea house, admire the vibrant hues of a cottage garden, get lost among towering conifers in the pinetum, or amble along woodland paths carpeted with bluebells and snowdrops in spring. There’s even a wildflower meadow, a serene lake, and quirky art scattered throughout, making every turn a delightful surprise.

A visit here is as much about relaxation as it is exploration. The gardens are wonderfully accessible, with wheelchair-friendly paths and plenty of benches to soak up the peaceful atmosphere. Families will love the interactive trails and play areas, while gardeners will geek out over the plant nursery. When you’re peckish, the central tea room dishes up proper Cornish fare and cakes, and you can pick up unusual plants or gifts to take home. Whether you’re after a serene stroll, a spot of wildlife watching (look out for wild ducks on the lake), or simply a gorgeous backdrop for a picnic, Pinetum Gardens offers the perfect blend of tranquillity, discovery, and fun for all ages—dogs included.
