“The best family weekender of the summer. A whole crew of us camp and party together with our families – we’ve been going since the kids were toddlers, and now they party on without us!” Eugenie Walker, St Mawgan.
What could be cooler than a giant, rambunctious garden fête with live music, sports day races, a fairground, circus workshops, yoga and silent discos in the woodland? A firm favourite for families that like to let loose every once in a while, The Great Estate is the sort of weekender where you can stretch into the day, sip Pimms in the afternoon, and dance into the night with Kaiser Chiefs or the Bang Bang Club and Jeremy Healy. Based in the meadows of Scorrier House, you can even nip off to the beach if you need a break from the festival scene.

“Rock Oyster delivers for the whole family. Forest school, cooking and circus skills for the kids, an easygoing atmosphere for the teens to roam, and a great lineup with a setting where the grown-ups actually get to relax too.” Hayley, Mawgan Porth.
Hogging a prime location overlooking the Camel Estuary, the Rock Oyster Festival beckons families, foodies and music lovers looking for an event that’s a little more laid-back than some of the big names. One of the smaller festivals on the summer circuit, it’s hands-down one of our favourites with a huge local following. You don’t have to love oysters to enjoy the smorgasbord of live music, artisan grub, well-being workshops and interactive kids’ sessions. What with Raymond Blanc in the kitchen and Scissor Sisters taking the stage, we can’t wait.

Set in the rolling Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, the Armchair Adventure Festival is for hardcore adventurers and dreamers alike. Originally launched when travel came to a halt in lockdown, this fully-fledged Cornwall festival now breaks out way beyond the armchair-bound collection of talks, films and music, to real-life adventures in the surrounding landscape, including paddle boarding, wild swimming, climbing, coasteering and sailing.

“Every year we choose one of the Eden Sessions as a treat before the madness of summer begins. It’s become one of our favourite nights out of the year.” Alex, Camelford.
No matter how many times you’ve visited the Eden Project, the first view over its magnificent biomes still has the wow-factor. Combine that with world-class bands and incredible acoustics, and the Eden Sessions are an unforgettable music experience. With CMAT, Mika and Snow Patrol among this year’s headliners, there’s something for every musical taste. Our tip: arrive a little early and make the most of the setting before the music starts.

“Boardmasters is hands-down the biggest week of the summer in Cornwall. We love watching the surfing at Fistral, then heading to Watergate Bay for big nights out. As locals, our favourite day is Sunday for afternoon beers overlooking the waves – then this year we can’t wait to see Rudimental wrap up the party vibes.”
Sam and Kate, Newquay.
What could be more suited to Cornwall than one of Europe’s biggest surf and music festivals? By day hit Fistral beach and watch international surf pros battle it out to be king of the waves, and in the evening catch big-name bands on stages overlooking Watergate Bay. One of the coolest dates in Cornwall’s festival calendar, there’s something for everyone – from fairground rides and sundowners-on-sea, to Lily Allen and Fatboy Slim taking the main stage into the night.

Port Eliot has long been home to one of Cornwall’s quirkiest festivals, where literary stars, rock stars and party goers mingle on the banks of the River Tamar. The ‘Port Eliot Festival’ had its last hurrah in 2019, but what’s been re-invented as Tunes in the Park, bears an uncanny resemblance to its predecessor, with a heady mix of comedy, literature, food, music and wellbeing in this sprawling country estate.

Relatively new on the circuit, this independent festival on Looe Beach is still small, cool and under-the-radar. Even more reason to get down to Cornwall before the sun sets on the season’s beach parties, expect bands in the sands, good food, fireworks and all-out festival vibes over a three-day event with community and sustainability at its core. Headliners this year include James Morrison and Starsailor.

“An unmissable end-of-summer party. Since it started 13 years ago, this festival has become an annual celebration for so many of us living and working in Newquay.” Alice and Jon, Newquay.
A proper end-of-season party, with live bands, a silent disco, camping and a lot of cider. Social, slightly chaotic, and unpretentious, The Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival is a true Cornish celebration of September blessings, with its homage to quality local cider and first-class music in the beautiful setting of Healey’s Cyder Farm. As well as the Rattler Olympics, Mount Hawke skate ramp and Wild Stone Spa, this year’s much-loved names include The Wonder Stuff and Elvana.
